Manual Handling UK – Training and Assessment Services

Manual Handling UK is an organisation that takes an ergonomics led approach to Manual Handling.  Our chartered ergonomics consultants have an in-depth understanding about the human body, human behaviour and injury causation. We use this expert knowledge to reduce the risk of injury from Manual Lifting and Handling through training and assessments.

We believe that by empowering the workforce with the understanding of injury causation and behavioural improvements the risk levels of manual handling injuries can be lowered significantly.

Manual Handling is the transporting or supporting of a load using the body, this includes pushing and pulling.

Our Services

Ergonomics and Manual Handling Assessments

Our ergonomists visit the site or place of work to observe the tasks being undertaken by a range of operatives.  These assessments have been conducted for production lines, warehouses, laboratories, factory premises, offices, field work, outdoor work, refuse workers.  We will collect objective data such as weights, frequency, dimensions, previous injuries etc.  If pushing and pulling is involved we will collect force data for the pushing and pulling.  Subjective data from operatives would also be collected.  We will use validated methods appropriate for tasks being undertaken which may include:

✔ MAC – Manual Handling Assessment Charts tool from the HSE

✔ ART – Assessment of Repetitive Tasks tool from HSE

✔ RULA – Rapid Upper Limb Assessment tool

✔ REBA – Rapid Entire Body Assessment tool

✔ RAPP – Risk Assessment of Pushing and Pulling

✔ Expert Opinion

✔ Subjective feedback

We would provide a report with images of tasks, expert appraisal, risk assessment tool summary and recommendations for improvement.  Our reports are easy to follow with a discussion with our ergonomics consultant included.  The assessment can form a basis for an ergonomic change programme and can be used to tailor any manual handling training that you may require.
